Captions for Shorts and Reels

Most Shorts and Reels are watched without sound. The Captions studio writes word-timed captions from the speech in any video, so every line appears exactly when it is said.

Make the captions

  1. Pick the media: a video from your library or one you upload.
  2. Choose the spoken language, or let it be detected.
  3. Keep Word timestamps on for captions that follow the speech word by word.
  4. Make captions. Choose English (translated) to caption a Hindi video in English.

Fix what the recognition missed

Names, brands and slang are where speech recognition slips. Read through the cues, correct a word, change a timing or add a cue where a line is missing.

Pick a style

  • Clean — plain text, for long-form and calm content.
  • Boxed — text on a solid box, readable over any background.
  • Punch — a few words at a time, large, for fast Shorts.
  • Karaoke — each word lights up as it is spoken.

Burn in or download

Burn in writes the captions into the picture — what Shorts, Reels and most social apps need. Download the SRT or VTT file instead for YouTube, where viewers can switch captions on and off and the text is read by search.
